Coaching Assistantship & Internship

Duke Volunteer Coaching Assistants & Interns play an integral role in the sports performance department by assisting with team training and facility management. C.A.s are here for both fall and spring semesters as SCCC Candidates; Interns are recruited for single semester commitments as either CSCS Candidates or Course Credit Candidates.

COACHING ASSISTANTship

Duke Sports Performance offers Olympic Sports Performance Coaching Assistantships as part of earning your CSCCa certification. It must be completed as a full academic year for fall + spring semesters.

We recruit and interview potential candidates throughout the year - currently accepting for Fall 2025/Spring 2026!

Coaching Assistants for CSCCa certification - SCCC Candidates:

  • Study and learn from our experienced staff of eight full-time sports performance coaches, including coaching assistant director/approved CSCCa mentor, Megan Hattori.

  • Must be completed as fall + spring semesters. This is a two-semester commitment.

  • Your CSCCa membership, SCCC certification and practicum fees will be paid for by Duke Sports Performance. Your travel to, lodging and meals at the CSCCa National Conference will also be covered.

Training Table meals included during fall and spring semesters!

INTERNSHIP

Duke Sports Performance offers Olympic Sports Performance Internships in the fall, spring and summer. We recruit and interview potential candidates throughout the year.

There are two internship tracks:

  1. NSCA - CSCS Candidate Track (1 sem.) - your NSCA membership and CSCS exam fees will be paid for by Duke Sports Performance

  2. Course Credit Track (1 sem.) - for your current undergraduate or graduate degree

Can be fall, spring, or summer. This is a one-semester commitment.

The Duke Olympic Sports Performance Department recruits volunteer full-time coaching assistants for a year-round developmental program with expenses for exam/membership and travel to the CSCCa conference covered by Duke Sports Performance.

The Duke Olympic Sports Performance Department also recruits volunteer full-time interns each semester. All internships are completed on a volunteer, unpaid basis. However, interns receive undergraduate or graduate-level course credit for one semester or work towards a CSCS certification with expenses for exam/membership covered by Duke Sports Performance.

All will go through a 12-week curriculum which includes program writing assignments and reviews, reading assignments, varied research on sports performance topics, communication with other support staff and coaches, while learning hands-on what it takes to be a collegiate sports performance coach.

Additionally, Coaching Assistants and Interns get hands-on experience using GPS, VBT, timing gates, heart rate, and other performance technologies alongside our staff and Sports Science Fellows and Interns:
